Banking on Data

Today, government policies and programs rely heavily on data-based insights. For policymakers, analysts, and academics, mountains of data, especially big data, offer great opportunities and challenges. FDIC is partnering with the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University (SCU) to present a new series of webinars, “Data banks: great opportunities, great responsibility”. Director of the FDIC Insurance and Research Division, Diane Ellis, and Professor Sanjiv Das of SCU conduct five monthly webinars for innovators and regulators. The series is based on the themes of the FDIC FinTech Research Conference 2019 and includes presentations of academic papers and policy-oriented panels. The presentations highlight the opportunities and challenges for financial institutions, consumers, and the financial system that arise with the use of big data and applied technologies. This series of bicoastal webinars will unite FinReg and the political sector on the east coast with the technology sector on the west coast.
